Burger Monster and Monstress recently met up for a lunch-time rendezvous @ Player’s in Austin, Texas. Player’s has been serving burgers to Longhorn students since Burger Monster terrorized the 40 acres and delivers greasy, hangover-helping burgers to those that need it most: freshman confined to dorms and Jester’s food court. Player’s was opened in 1981 by 2 Longhorn alum and is open from 10:45 until 3 in the morn (3:30 Friday and Saturday nights). Those are college hours.

Player’s has multiple tvs tuned to ESPN and an outdoor biergarden. The burgers are a little greasy but well worth it. The french fries are good, but I really recommend the onion rings. Burger Monster’s double double with cheese didn’t disappoint. Check out this pic:

Burger Monstress got a cheeseburger and we both got a basket of fries. Totalled out to about 14$ and was ready within 10 minutes. Player’s is goodness. The patties were delicious, the grease was appropriate– soaked through the paper but not enough to make the bun soggy. The seasonings in the patty really hit the spot– salty and a little sweet. From previous experience the shakes are also very good- made to order and topped off with chocolate syrup and a cherry. I believe I have also had the fried pickles before, but memories of them are rather hazy. Might have been a 2:30 in the morning Player’s run. Little known fact- if you show the staff at Player’s your UT identification card they will still make you pay full price. Thankfully, that is pretty cheap for the food you get.
