1. Magnetic Mail Slot Covers Wood / Fiberglass Doors / Walls 1. Remove all existing hardware from opening. Surface must be clean and dry. Before removing the backing from the Adhesive sheet (E), place sheet over opening centering sheet from left to right and allowing 1/2” overlap at the bottom and mark outline with pencil.
2. Removal of the Mail Slot From a Door. A mail slot might be quaint, but if it's too small or allows cold, damp breezes or late-summer's heat to intrude, it's no fun. You might want to add a storm.

Magnetic Mail Slot Covers use flexible magnetic sheet material which allows mail to be easily placed through slot openings with little resistance. The sheet then closes shut immediately to prevent any air drafts created by typical exterior mail slot doors. The mail slot cover moved on an axle that was either welded or glued into the surrounding cover. I wound up just cutting it out with a dremel. I replaced it with a threaded rod and held it in place with a couple of nuts and lock washers. Get a mailbox mounted outside. Seal that retro old mail slot up good, maybe with spray foam insulation. Or replace the door if you can. Modern insulated doors do not have mail slots.

Easy to install by simply running a bead of silicone on both the interior and exterior sleeves and attaching each side to the glass around the 10-1/4 inch (260 millimeter) wide x 1-7/8 inch (47.6 millimeter) high cutout.
